Sebastian Smith

What do you love?

My wife, Amanda. My boys, Kingsley and Reif. The beach. Respectful people. Good and Plenty candy. Fluffy clouds when I’m flying. Andy Warhol. Chair and the Maiden Gallery. Photography. The Sony A900. Moto Guzzi. Surfing. Paris. Printed magazines. The smell of developer. Polaroids. Jazz. Homemade spaghetti. Showroom appointments. Win Initiative. The beast, Hans Neleman. Mum. Dad. Waiting in line for something that I really want. Sticking my hands in a barrel of coffee beans. True friends. Speaking French. Pretending that I’m a monster while chasing my children around the studio.

What do you fear?

Dying in an embarrassing way.

Have you ever faced death?

Every day I walk out of my house I face death. But besides that, I’ve been in a train crash…I’ve been thrown from a boat into the water by getting hit by the boom…I was in a plane that dropped 20,000 feet out of the sky over the Atlantic…I’ve been hit by a car on my motorcycle…and have had at least 30 other near death experiences.

So, word of advice, don’t travel with me.

What do you have in your pockets/purse right now?

Credit cards. Receipts. A parking ticket. $21 and 34 cents.

Do you have any reoccurring dreams?

I always have this one dream that I’m running down a tunnel and zombies are chasing me. I always wake up when I get caught by the zombies. I’ve had this dream since I was 15. I need to master lucid dreaming I guess.

If you could be anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be? And what would you be doing?

Easy question. I would live at Cape St. Francis in a bungalow, and surf all year round. The waves are legendary.

Imagine that you can fly. How would you do it?

Pilot license.

What does your favorite color mean to you?

I really like orange. I never wear orange, but I find it very appealing to the eyes.

If you could choose a time in your life to re-live, when would it be?

Birth, that way I could re-live all the amazing moments again.
